New Low Level (Cold) Laser Therapy Treatment at
Queensboro Occupational Therapy
The
True Art of Healing Hands

WHAT IS LOW-LEVEL (COLD) LASER THERAPY AND HOW DOES IT WORK? LIGHT THERAPY
has applications in three specific areas: 1. Wound Care and Tissue Repair 2. Inflammatory Conditions 3. Pain Control
Light Therapy Treatment is tolerated very well by patients and is good to use with patients who have had little or no success with other types of treatments.
Applications of Light Therapy to conditions as: carpal tunnel, arthritis, wound healing, muscle spasm, and burns have been proven successful with
2-3 treatments weekly.
The SCIENCE Behind this EnLIGHTening Therapy
LIGHT (Photons) are applied to tissue. Absorption in the Mitochondria and
Cell Membrane by Chromophores (cytochromes, porphyrins, flavins, and other
opsins or chromophores.) Elevation of ATP synthesis (Ca2+ and the respiratory chain involved); Formation of low amounts of ROS (hydrogen peroxide,
nitric oxide, etc.) DNA & RNA synthesis; protein synthesis; mitosis and cell
proliferation TISSUE REPAIR/PAIN RELIEF.
Reports indicate that Light Therapy can reduce pain by modulating the levels of
prostoglandins and nitric oxide (NO), and through its direct effect on peripheral
nerves as evidenced by measurements of nerve conduction velocity and
somatosensory evoked potential.
